update from vancouver...

as some of you guys already know, we're up in Vancouver, BC right now shooting a "one tree hill" and "life unexpected" crossover episode! it's going to be AWESOME and i can't wait for you to see it! it is so so beautiful up here. i've been taking some video so hopefully i can post some of it soon so you can check out the set..but thought i'd just say hey from my trailer with my hair all crazy in curlers while we're waiting for a rainstorm to go away! more to come soon....x0x0 kv
i'm getting ahead of myself...
..because it's August 27th and i'm posting about Halloween. but i'm not going crazy. we're about to start shooting a halloween episode of 'One Tree Hill' so i'm kinda in the mindset.
and i figured that in the spirit of that i should share some photos from last halloween when me and the band were on tour in Mesa, Arizona. i don't think i ever posted these (probably for fear of people thinking we were insane) but it was easily one of the best halloweens ever. not to mention it was my keys player Brett Lindemann's birthday. (he's the one dressed as what he insisted was unmistakably a monk...with a blonde wig on...) so here you go...
backstage with the guys in Mesa AZ..our show was on the 30th but with halloween being the next day, it seemed like a fantastic excuse to emerge onstage dressed like dumbasses...and by process of elimination you can probably figure out that the gorilla is Bob. he played drums through the whole damn show with that mask on. Chris is Mario, Mark is Hansolo, and Cash is a priest. and i am strawberry shortcake. i think.
me with the birthday boy! strawberry shortcake wasn't exactly my first choice of outfits but as you can imagine we were a little late on the idea to play a show in costumes to have coordinated our outfits with the little selection they offered at the creepy as hell store we bought everything at. it ended up working out pretty well though. we just ended up going out there as entirely unrelated random things. naturally.
me, Mario, and....playboy bunny? kind of never determined what that costume classified as...
This would be Brett carrying Kevin Hammond (who was on tour with us) around Mesa. and Kevin's costume might actually be more confusing than Brett's. but i think he had the right idea in the footie pajamas...if it hadn't been about 104 degrees in Mesa...
so there you go! wish i could post pics of our halloween episode but you guys will just have to wait :) what was your most awesome costume ever??
happy WEEKEND! x0x0 kv
great design for a great cause
so I'll admit that I found out about these from US Weekly, but now I'm OBSESSED. So i'm posting in the spirit of my upcoming trip to Nicaragua/Latin America, and i think it's awesome that Wayuu Taya - the non-profit foundation that created these adorable bags - is donating the proceeds to "help improve the lives of Latin-American indigenous communities while maintaining and respecting their traditions, culture and beliefs." LOVE that! they have a million colors and they are super super cute. and i do believe ms. Katy Perry was seen toting one at Coachella. Check it out!

from the website:
"The bags are hand-made by Wayuú indigenous women at Shukumajaya, the foundation's women center that helps educate women on parenting and nutrition, family planning and hygiene. All bag items are one-of-kind."
pretty rad. go get one!!!:

it's always funny..
..on "it's always sunny." It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is perhaps my favorite show on TV. and even though i'm a little early to be getting really excited about it (season 6 premieres on FX SEPT 16th) I'm going to Philly this weekend for the LXMPO Lacrosse game and booking my flight reminded me how excited i am for this show to come back. if you've never seen it you are missing out on a huge chance to laugh your ass off. check out one of many season 6 trailers that are up on youtube right now:
unreal. i used to always think of Danny DeVito as the dad from Matilda, but next time I watch Matilda I will without question just see Frank from Always Sunny. it's an epically hilarious show, so go get the dvds and tune in on sept 16th! that is, of course, after you've tuned in to the CW two days earlier on the 14th for the season 8 premiere of One Tree Hill :)
anyone else unhealthily obsessed with this show??

drink with your favorite bands
okay here comes another etsy post. by the way you guys were SO helpful with my spanish post yesterday!! i'm copying and pasting everyone's responses into a little document to take with me :)
so anyways, i thought these coasters were really badass. really cute idea. they'd even be cool just hung up on the wall like bricks or tiles...even though that might require some heavy glueing and i'm pretty sure my landlord would not be thrilled with that...even if they are extremely awesome. which one is your favorite? and which bands do you think he should add? not really sure what the image for a kate voegele coaster would be...

i think i like the Pixies one the best but that is quite honestly most likely just because i really like pixie stix.
happy tuesday everybody!! x0x0 kv
if you speak any spanish...
...i'm gonna need your help. because i'm really excited to say that i'm going to be taking a trip with some great friends to Nicaragua in a few weeks. and i speak absolutely zero spanish.
if you follow me on twitter, then you've seen my many shoutouts to Lacrosse the Nations, which is a humanitarian organization started by my boy Brett Hughes and some of my close friends (one of which is Brad Corrigan from the band Dispatch) that seeks to provide education, mentorship, hope and opportunity to children in impoverished communities - mainly through the sport of lacrosse.

now, i am about the most miserable athlete on planet earth. so i won't be down there showing the kids how to score goals or catch and throw...they'll probably be teaching me...but i am going to bring a guitar and a smile and hope that those things can contribute in some way!
we'll be spending most of our time in a place called La Chureca, which is literally a community of people who are living in the city trash dump of Managua, Nicaragua. Lacrosse the Nations partnered with the Colegio Cristiano La Esperanza, (School of Hope) located in the center of the dump, to establish a lacrosse program for the 350 children enrolled in the school.
check out this video that'll give you a better idea of what LtN is all about and where I'll be for a few days:

Introduction to LtN from Lacrosse the Nations on Vimeo.

pretty amazing stuff. This will be my first trip down there and I'm SO excited to meet all of these amazing kids. It'll be a week of learning for me...i have no idea how to play lacrosse and no idea how to speak spanish but i feel so drawn to this community and can't wait to help my friends give these kids something to smile about! If want to learn more about what i'll be up to, please check out
and follow @laxthenations on twitter!
also, if you wanna make a donation (even if it's just 5 bucks it helps!) please go to:
http://lacrossethenations.org/donate/
even if you have no idea what lacrosse IS, this community is something that'll tug at you. your donations will go to everything from training and salaries for four local lacrosse coaches to in-school PE programs and after-school lacrosse programs for the kids, funding for their breakfast and sports nutritional programs and funding for school supplies and teaching materials for these little kiddos. pretty exciting stuff!
can't wait to tell you guys all about it...in the meantime in between shooting One Tree Hill scenes I'll be in my trailer cramming in as much Rosetta Stone intro to Spanish as I can handle into my head! little overwhelming...if anyone has any tips or helpful phrases/words to know, please share :) anyone else ever been to Nicaragua?!

i pulled a lady gaga
....when i played Case Western Reserve University in my lovely hometown of Cleveland OH this weekend...BECAUSE we played a show to welcome the new freshmen, and someone among the crowd was constructing these elaborate balloon hats...one badass fan gifted me his hat and i ended up with an alligator (or perhaps it was a crocodile) on my head. the crowd insisted i wear it while performing...so perform I did with an alligator on my head. i know she's put a telephone on hers, but lady gaga has not yet worn an alligator.
Case is an awesome school and is home to a coffee shop that I used to play at in high school now and then. I went over there to grab some energy before my set and was LOVING the vibe there. They were selling old books for $2, so when i came across somebody's old Italian language textbook, i picked it up along with my vanilla latte. that Eat Pray Love movie really made me obsessed with the idea of going to Italy. They also had these awesome shirts that say "cleveland is my paris" on them, so obviously i had to have one. The barista, Luke, makes them and has a website where you can email him if you want one! Soon you'll be able to order them online too. just check out
Love it. Been a little M.I.A. this weekend because I went straight to Cinci OH to see one of my best friends get married the day after my show! such a fun weekend. Hope you guys had a great one too.

so i've been slacking on the posting the last two days because i've been flying all over the place to get to ohio for a friend's wedding. finally here after several hours of racing to and from every corner of the charlotte airport. but before i head to bed i had to post a few pictures of what it means to sleep in my own bed....
my friend on a date with rpatz
not many words are needed for this except that amy kuney is a rockstar. and funny as hell. go download her songs if you haven't heard her yet because she writes amazing music of her own in addition to covering miley cyrus and taping rpatz's head to blow up dolls :)
